FAQ

Why “Anti-Capitalist” rather than “Anarchist”?

We are a multi-tendency organizing committee and believe that radicals from all liberatory traditions can learn from each other and organize in collaboration. We reject base sectarianism, and encourage attendees of different ideological stripes to engage each other genuinely and in good faith.

Are masks required?

Yes. We stand in solidarity with our disabled and immunocompromised friends and comrades. We aim to create an accessible space for as many people as we can, and also recognize the utility of mask wearing as a means of combating the surveillance state. We encourage folks to test for COVID before showing up, and will provide tests on site.

Is the bookfair wheelchair accessible?

The following spaces are wheelchair accessible: Westminster House, Corvallis Benton County Library, Biere Library.
The following spaces are not:
bunkerbunkerbunker: The basement show space is at the bottom of a set of stairs.
Interzone: Interzone is accessible via wheelchair. However, the space where shows occur is up a small step. There are other accessible entrances to the show space, but they require going through a side gate. If you have questions or accessibility requests, please email us at hotvbookfair@riseup.net and we will do our best to make accommodations.

Is everyone at the bookfair safe / vouched for?

No! We do not know everyone who will have a presence at this event. It is entirely possible that malefactors who wish to do attendees harm will be here. We suggest that all attendees use a high degree of caution engaging with people they do not know. If someone you don’t know starts talking about spicy stuff out of the blue, it is best to avoid engagement. We highly recommend this guide to creating safer networks.

Can I take photos?

You may not take pictures of any attendees without the express consent of the people in the photo. Doing so will result in your immediate ejection from the event.

Is the event free?

Yes! We will be collecting donations during the entertainment in order to compensate performers, but nobody will be turned away for lack of funds at any of these spaces.

Is the bookfair all ages?

The main tabling space, workshops, and most of the events are all ages. However, the shows at bunkerbunkerbunker and the Biere Library are 18+.

I have beef with someone at the bookfair, what do I do?

Engage with them respectfully or don’t. We don’t care. All we ask that attendees refrain from disruptive confrontations in any of the bookfair spaces. We have good relationships with all of our venues, and don’t want that to change based on your interpersonal grievances. If there are individuals or groups present at the bookfair who you feel are genuinely making the space unsafe for others, please let an organizer know, and we will do our best to deal with it.
